Hospitals & Healthcare

Hospitals demand floors you can sterilise, wet areas that never leak into the floor below, and expansion joints that stay flush enough to roll a bed over. Dhawan Associates supplies and installs hygienic epoxy/PU flooring, waterproofing, protective coatings and Dseal fire-rated joint covers for OTs, ICUs, labs, pharmacies and diagnostic blocks across North India.

Why Healthcare Is Different

In A Hospital, The Finish Is Part Of Infection Control.

A factory floor can be rough. A hospital floor cannot. Every surface in a clinical area has to resist bacteria, survive daily disinfectant washdowns, and give a trolley or bed a smooth, joint-free run. Movement and fire safety stop being cosmetic details here — they are life-safety issues in blocks where patients cannot self-evacuate.

Operation theatres, ICUs, pathology labs, pharmacy clean rooms and CSSD areas need seamless, non-porous flooring with integral coved skirting so there is no crevice for dirt or micro-organisms to lodge in. Sluice rooms, wards, kitchens, toilets and the whole terrace-and-basement envelope need waterproofing that holds up to constant wetting and chemical cleaning. And wherever an expansion joint crosses a corridor, atrium or podium, it must be flush, easy to clean and fire-rated — not a raised metal trap that snags a wheelchair.

We approach a healthcare building as one system: substrate, waterproofing, floor finish, protective coating and movement joint all specified together, then installed by our own crews so the material and the workmanship carry one accountable name.

The Problem

Challenges In This Sector.

The failures we are called to fix in hospitals repeat themselves. Almost all of them trace back to a surface or a joint that was chosen for cost, not for the clinical environment it has to survive.

Hygiene & cleanability

Tiled or jointed floors in clinical areas collect grime in every grout line and crevice — impossible to fully sterilise and a reservoir for bacteria. OTs and labs need genuinely seamless, coved surfaces.

Chemical & disinfectant attack

Constant washing with strong disinfectants, spilled reagents in labs and pharma chemistry degrade ordinary paint and cheap floors, leaving them chalky, stained and porous.

Water where it must not go

Leaking wet areas, sluice rooms, terraces, basements and water tanks put moisture into slabs and walls — a direct threat to fungal growth, equipment and the building itself.

Joints that trip trolleys

Expansion joints across corridors and atriums that sit proud, rattle, or catch a caster make bed and trolley movement rough — and become a hygiene and safety liability.

Fire & movement in critical blocks

Multi-block hospitals move — thermally and, in seismic zones, structurally. A joint in a critical-care wing must accommodate that movement while holding a fire barrier between compartments.

Concrete durability

Exposed RCC in car parks, facades and plant areas carbonates and corrodes over time, spalling concrete and shortening the life of a building that has to run for decades.

Our Brand · Flagship Dseal Expansion Joints For Healthcare

Flush, Fire-Rated Joints A Bed Can Roll Straight Over.

In a hospital, an expansion joint is not just a gap to hide — it is a hygiene surface, a trolley path and, in critical-care blocks, a fire barrier. Dseal joint covers are engineered by our group manufacturer, Dseal Solutions Pvt. Ltd., to do all three.

Long corridors, connecting bridges between wings, atrium floors and podium decks all cross structural expansion joints. Get the cover wrong and you get the failures every facility manager knows: a raised metal edge that jolts every passing bed, loose plates that rattle and lift, gaps that fill with dirt and defeat the whole point of a sterile floor, and — worst of all — a joint in a fire compartment wall that has no fire barrier at all.

Dseal supplies floor, wall and ceiling joint covers with a flush, trolley- and bed-friendly profile and a smooth top surface that wipes clean, so the joint disappears into the hygienic floor instead of interrupting it. For blocks that must hold a fire rating between compartments, and for critical-care wings in seismic zones, Dseal provides seismic joint systems designed to take large multi-directional movement while keeping the building’s fire and water barriers intact.

  • Flush covers for corridors, atriums and podiums — trolley- and bed-friendly
  • Smooth, wipe-clean top surface that suits a hygienic clinical floor
  • Fire-rated joint systems for compartment walls in critical-care blocks
  • Seismic joint systems for large movement in earthquake-zone hospitals
  • Floor, wall and roof profiles specified, supplied and installed by one team

Quick Answers

Hospitals & Healthcare — FAQ.

What flooring do you recommend for operation theatres and labs?

Seamless, non-porous epoxy or PU flooring with integral coved skirting, so there are no grout lines or floor-to-wall crevices to trap bacteria. The finish resists disinfectants and lab chemicals and can be washed down daily — see our industrial flooring service.

Can expansion joints in hospital corridors be made flush for beds and trolleys?

Yes — that is exactly what the Dseal floor joint covers are for. They sit flush with the finished floor with a smooth, wipe-clean top, so a bed or trolley rolls straight across without a jolt, and the joint doesn’t collect dirt.

Do you provide fire-rated and seismic joints for critical-care blocks?

Yes. For joints that cross a fire-compartment wall, and for critical-care wings in seismic zones, Dseal supplies fire-rated and seismic joint systems that take large movement while keeping the building’s fire and water barriers continuous.

How do you stop leaks in wet areas, tanks and basements?

With the right system for each location — membrane or crystalline waterproofing for wet areas, terraces and tanks, and injection grouting to arrest active leaks in basements and construction joints from inside.

Do you supply material only, or also install it?

Both. We supply genuine, batch-coded material with GST invoice for in-house teams, and we run our own trained crews for flooring, waterproofing, coatings and joint installation. For a healthcare project, one accountable team can specify, supply and install the whole package.
